The MotorLand Aragón circuit, home of the TISSOT de Aragón Grand Prix scheduled for this weekend, is one of the most difficult and technical circuits in the MotoGP™ World Championship. Its varied layout with fast, sweeping corners interspersed with chicanes leading to slow, sharp bends make it a challenge for World Championship teams and riders. With the help of the MotoGP™ Tech group, we've gathered some key information to get the best result at Aragón.
1. Acceleration in the low-speed corners: MotorLand is a track where acceleration is needed in the low-speed corners, the main point being the almost 1 km long straight. For this reason, the holeshots will be decisive also this weekend.
2. The front end: feeling comfortable with the front end in Aragón will be crucial. Perhaps this is why Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) has been so dominant in recent years. The eight-time world champion is able to push the front of his RC213V to the limit lap after lap and this allows him to make the difference. In addition, MotorLand is full of difficult braking zones. Turn 1 is tight and has no elevation change. In contrast to turn 8 - the "reverse corkscrew" - which is downhill as turns 12 and 14. It will be fascinating to see which configuration the drivers choose for the front because this could be a key issue for many.
3. The trade-off between stability and agility: The one at Aragon is a difficult weekend to prepare for and even more difficult to predict. Its combination of fast and slow, tight and wide corners is a nightmare for the team bosses who are always faced with different set-up compromises. The goal is to get the best feel for the entire circuit and not just one particular sector.
As always, the compromise between stability and agility will be the key and it will be fun to see if someone will try a slightly different set-up by venturing into some aspect. What will happen at MotorLand Aragón? The first free practice session will take place this Friday, September 10 at 10:55 am.
